SEYMOUR SOFTBALL
Girls Fastpitch Softball is a very special sport in the small town of Seymour, Ct. Seymour Little League softball teams have been State Champions 17 times since 1975. In 2007, a team from Seymour won the Big League World Series. The Seymour High Girls Varsity Team has won the State Championship in 2009, 06, 05, 04, 00, 96, 95, and 93. And was runner-up in 2007, 03, 98, 94, 92, and 85. Individually, many Seymour players have earned recognition from local media, All-League or All-State status, or have gone on to play key roles on college teams in NCAA competition.
Seymour High School s Varsity Softball Squad had lost just 6 games in the last 7 seasons. In that time, they set a state record for wins in a season (28) in 2004, and in 2007 set a state record(& 6th all-time nationally) with 78 straight wins,including a 10th straight league title and 7th straight league tournament championship, before losing in their 5th straight State Championship Final. Last years team finished undefeated at 26-0 winning the NVL Brass Division, NVL Championship, and winning the Class "M" State Championship. The 2009 Cats finished #1 in the New Haven Register Poll, and were named the State s Top Team by the Connecticut High School Coach s Association. The 2009 squad also entered the National Record Book by only surrendering 3 runs in 26 games and only surrendering 1 earned run the entire season. The 2010 team returns 5 starters, including this years captain, center fielder, Amanda Willette. The Cats may be young but ready to continue the "Seymour Ball" legacy.
